چکیده

This document describes a signaling method and protocol for RSVP-based admission control over IEEE 802-style LANs. The protocol is designed to work both with the current generation of IEEE 802 LANs as well as with the recent work completed by the IEEE 802.1 committee. yavatkar, Ed., et. draft-ietf-issll-is802-sbm-07.txt [Page 2] SBM (Subnet Bandwidth Manager) November, 1998

Draft Mick Seaman

This document describes the support of IETF Integrated Services over LANs built from IEEE 802 network segments which may be interconnected by IEEE 802.1 MAC Bridges (switches) [1]. It describes the practical capabilities and limitations of this technology for supporting Controlled Load [8] and Guaranteed Service [9] using the inherent capabilities of the relevant 802 technologies [5],[6],[15],[...

Enabling End-to-End QoS over Hybrid Wired-Wireless Networks

Providing end-to-end parameterized QoS is desirable for many network applications and has received a lot of attention in recent years. However, it remains a challenge, especially over hybrid networks involving both wired networks and wireless access segments (such as IEEE 802.11 Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs)). The difficulty in achieving such QoS arises mainly because wireless segments o...

SBM protocol for providing real-time QoS in Ethernet LANs

This paper deals with the performance evaluation of LAN-Integrated Service protocol called SBM (Subnetwork Bandwidth Manager), a solution to handle QoS requirements over Local Area Networks. SBM is an RSVP-based protocol, which consists in electing a manager over a LAN segment to map RSVPflows into an appropriate class of service and handles admission control and bandwidth reservation operation...

NSIS-Based Quality of Service and Resource Allocation in Ethernet Networks

The definition of the IEEE 802.1Q and IEEE 802.1p standards provided Class of Service (CoS) capabilities to Ethernet networks and, consequently, allowed new QoS services to be deployed. This is used by the Subnet Bandwidth Management (SBM) protocol, an RSVP-based protocol that provides IntServ-like services at Ethernet level. This paper proposes an alternative way to quality of service provisio...
